Summary
- Peter Quill has already been confirmed to be returning to the MCU as the Legendary Star-Lord, and Avengers: Secret Wars is the best place for this to happen.
- Marvel Studios could adapt one scene from Marvel Comics' Secret Wars that saw Peter Quill create a giant Groot, which destroyed Castle Doom.
- This would be an excellent way for Peter Quill to seek redemption after his major Avengers: Infinity War mistake.
Avengers: Secret Wars has the perfect opportunity to redeem Peter Quill's Star-Lord from his huge Avengers: Infinity War mistake. Although introduced to the MCU as something of an antihero in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy, Chris Pratt's Star-Lord has gone on to become one of the franchise's most trusted and dedicated heroes, alongside his Guardians of the Galaxy team. The team's original members parted ways in 2023's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, with Peter Quill reuniting with his grandfather on Earth, but his MCU journey isn't over just yet.
At the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Peter Quill was the only member of the team confirmed to be returning in the MCU's future. This came with a small name change, which dubbed Quill the Legendary Star-Lord. While Peter Quill's return has been confirmed, there has been no word on when this might happen, but Marvel Studios may have already set up the best chance to bring him back, particularly with the much anticipated Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars on the horizon.

Peter Quill’s Legendary Star-Lord Would Make Perfect Sense For Avengers 5 & 6
Since Peter Quill found himself leaving the Guardians of the Galaxy and returning to Earth in the MCU's Phase 5, he may be perfectly primed to become a member of the upcoming Avengers team. Not only would he be easy to contact now that he's living permanently on Earth, but Star-Lord also has prior experience with the Avengers, so would surely still have superhero contacts across the globe. Star-Lord fought alongside the Avengers during the Battle of Earth in Avengers: Endgame.
Most notably, Star-Lord and the Guardians of the Galaxy also battled Thanos on Titan alongside Iron Man, Spider-Man and Doctor Strange. While the former is deceased, and the second forgotten by the universe, Doctor Strange could easily reach out to Peter Quill upon learning of his residence on Earth. Star-Lord is an experienced fighter, has a brilliant, tactical mind, and has proven his strengths as the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy, so he'd be a fantastic candidate to join the MCU's new Avengers team.

Adapting 2015’s Secret Wars Could Let Star-Lord Make Up For His Endgame Thanos Mistake
Bringing back Peter Quill's Star-Lord as a member of Phase 6's Avengers team presents the best chance for his huge Avengers: Infinity War mistake to be redeemed. Back in the 2018 crossover movie, Quill let his emotions get the best of him after learning of Thanos sacrificing Gamora for the Soul Stone. He punched the Mad Titan while Mantis had him restrained, breaking him free and allowing him to defeat the heroes on Titan, and ultimately complete his mission to wipe out half the population of the universe.
Peter Quill himself even admitted blame for Thanos' success in Avengers: Infinity War, as he recounted the events of Infinity War and Endgame while on the Orgosphere in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
This action led to Peter Quill receiving a huge amount of criticism, but 2027's upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars could make up for it by adapting one key piece of Marvel Comics' Secret Wars story from 2015. During Secret Wars #8, Star-Lord is attacked by Black Swan while fixing his ship in Castle Doom, but manages to prick a toothpick made from Groot into God Emperor Doom's World Tree. The toothpick merged with the World Tree, causing a giant version of the heroic talking tree to rise, destroying Castle Doom and marking the beginning of the assault against Doctor Doom.
Following Robert Downey Jr.'s casting as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, it's more likely that returning directing duo the Russo brothers will adapt Marvel Comics' Secret Wars somewhat faithfully. This means that Peter Quill's Star-Lord could be seen to redeem himself completely by destroying Castle Doom with Groot's help in the live-action MCU. This would be an excellent way for Chris Pratt to reprise his iconic MCU role, and could bring one of Marvel Comics' most memorable moments to the big-screen.
