Installation from bootable USB help need
- Quote
#1Postby Adre »
Good evening, I wanted to ask a question
I have an Intel pentium B960 2.20GH with 4GB RAM,
I decided to install MX linux as OS instead of windows 8.1 I had.
Through rufus I made the stick bootable and ran the iso file, and I get to the desktop
mx-21.2.1 x64
language-keyboards-timezone
advanced options
memory test
boot rescue menus
Question 1).What setting do I need to do from here to pass the operating system directly to the hard drive cause i dont want to have the stick connected to laptop all the time?
Question 2) If I don't need to do anything here, do I need to do something with the mx installer?
I don't want to divide it into partitions, I have no intention of having two operating systems, only linux,
I'm a total newbie to linux, so I'll have more questions later
Any help appreciated, many thanks for your time and sorry for the inconvenience

I recommend getting 21.3 ISO which was just releases instead of installing a bit older 21.2.1
At boot time you select mx-21.3 entry and that boots you into the live environment. From there you need to click on Installer on the desktop and follow the prompts to install MX on your drive.
If you want only one OS you can do automatic install which partitions the disk automatically so you won't have to worry about different options.

At LiveBoot menu you can select the Language, which would also pre-select a keyboard-layout and timezone.
But you can also select keyboard and timezone.
When booted in the Live System your locale (language), keyboard and timezone would already be set.
Alternatively you can boot without any selection by selecting the first MX Linux menu entry. (The booted system would be in English (US), with us-keyboard and with timezone America/New_York (EST)
When clicking the installer on the desktop, you would given an option the select keyboard layout for the installed system. Similar the timezone and language can be also selected within the installer.

As mentioned, just select auto-install entire disk. It will prepare the whole drive. You may need to enter a username and password for the user and optional also a root-password.
