Even if you know how to solve the problem, let your subordinates try to themselves. If the boss is always solving the problem, their junior leaders will never learn how. This creates a workplace dependent on the boss for plans, ideas, and problem-solving.Your team will be less effective if they are waiting on the top leader for direction.Every team member should be empowered to make decisions and execute.

Leading enable learning. On occasion, I've heard from 'leaders:🔹why don't you just do it🔹why can't he just do it The are multiple and similar responses, but what my ears typically hear is - developing others takes too long, it's best if that thing is done in the quickest way possible.A responsible parent guides a child. Should a responsible leader not guide a subordinate? It's just leading. #leadership

Echelon Front 3 things I have found that accelerate the empowerment you referenced: 1. Clarify expectations and outcome explicitly2. Give permission to act in that context3. Get out of the way

This is great advice and it was one of my biggest struggles when I first became a new supervisor. It wasn't that I was trying to show off, I was just demonstrating my competence to help them. But what I didn't realize is I was just "giving them a fish" by solving that situation. By letting them work it out with a little bit of guidance during the process actually taught them "how to fish."And that's when I learned the power of being what I call a "leader-producer."

Nothing is more empowering and motivating than: “figure it out, and come back to met by xx with what you recommend”

True! In order to have a team that can do that you have to work through the phases of psychological safety to have a team willing and able to do it. You have to build that trust as well. Many leaders who fail to be willing and able to step back do so because they haven't built the team culture where they can allow themselves to do so and/or their team lets them.

We are our worst enemies. Our human tendencies - to procrastinate on problems, avoid change, be undisciplined, listen to our egos, and cast blame - get us into trouble, worsening problems and sowing the seeds of failure. But we're not alone in the struggle to get out of our way. At Echelon Front, we've worked with over 1,600 companies, and leaders and teams everywhere have the same weaknesses. But through brutally honest self-assessments and the application of Extreme Ownership, we can adopt mindsets that will lead us to victory. 📍 Rather than hoping problems will solve themselves, we should be biased toward action and default aggressive in solving them. 📍 We may resist change, but our organizations will not survive unless we innovate and adapt.📍 If you want the freedom to excel at the highest level possible, you must have discipline. 📍 Listen to our ego will only let it get out of control. Instead, focus on humility, the most important attribute of a leader. 📍 Don't cast blame, point fingers, and make excuses. If you don't take Extreme Ownership, the problem will persist. These solutions sound simple, but they're not easy. Our Extreme Ownership Academy is designed to correct our bad habits and replace them with these leadership mindsets. Thanks to Leif Babin and Dave Berke for helping us get out of our way on today's free live session. For more live training sessions, check out our weekly upcoming sessions: https://lnkd.in/g7t9Nc24
